Chef Frank Magaña
Just one visit to Prosser in the Heart of Washington Wine Country inspired Chef Frank Magaña to make the move and pursue a dream of opening his own restaurant and catering company. Chef Magaña moved to Prosser in the spring of 2007 and immediately began catering for the wine industry. A beautiful historic building in downtown Prosser became the home for his vision- Picazo 7Seventeen Wine Bar & Restaurant.
Chef Magaña received the bulk of his culinary training on the job. He attended Culinary School at South Seattle College but family duties called and so, before graduation, he accepted an Executive Chef position at the premier high-end catering company in Tacoma where he stayed for 7 years. Chef Magaña has over 16 years experience in the restaurant/catering industry, with many of those years spent in some of the Puget Sounds' finest dining restaurants.
Picazo 7Seventeen opened its doors in October 2007 and was greeted with an enthusiastic response. The casual atmosphere makes Picazo's a local favorite and "Industry Night" Wednesdays plays host to impromptu gatherings of some of the most talented wine makers in the area, their hardworking staff and local wine enthusiasts.
Chef Magaña strives to create dishes that showcase the best of the Yakima Valley. The seasonal menu is influenced by the flavors of Spain. Representing the best wineries of the Valley, Picazo's Wine List was recently awarded "Outstanding Washington Wine List" by Wine Press Northwest 2008.
